Small and/or specialty supplier based on Federal laws and SBA requirements.
Learn More
Urea Agar Base is used with agar for the differentiation of microorganisms on the basis of urease production in a laboratory setting. Urea Agar Base is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Christensen devised a urea agar medium containing peptone and dextrose that had a reduced buffer content. The medium supported the vigorous growth of many Gram-negative, enteric bacilli and readily permitted observation of urease production. Urea Agar Base may be used as a screening medium (along with Triple Sugar Iron Agar) for the selection of Salmonella and Shigella cultures for serologic classification. Urea Agar Base is also used to detect production of urease by yeast. Urease production is an important differential test in microbiology and outlined in standard methods. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/urea-agar-base-christensen

Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone Broth pH 7.0 is the diluent specified by the Harmonized Pharmacopoeia for the microbiological examination of non-sterile products andconforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP Requirements in a laboratory setting. Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone Broth pH 7.0 is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone Broth pH 7.0 is recommended by the Harmonized Pharmacopoeia (USP/EP/JP) for the microbiological examination of non-sterile products. The low level of peptone lessens the physiological shock experienced by microorganism when suspended in a diluent. The dual phosphate components create a buffered environment and sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/buffered-sodium-chloride-peptone-broth-ph-7

Small and/or specialty supplier based on Federal laws and SBA requirements.
Learn More
Universal Pre-enrichment Broth is used for the recovery of Salmonella spp. and Listeria spp. in a laboratory setting. Universal Pre-enrichment Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Traditional methods for recovering Salmonella spp. and Listeria spp. from food products require separate pre-enrichment media for each microorganism. Some broth media recommended for preenrichment contain antibiotic inhibitors or have insufficient buffering capacity which hinder recovery of sublethally injured cells. Bailey and Cox formulated Universal Preenrichment Broth to permit simultaneous resuscitation of sublethally injured Salmonella and Listeria. The broth medium provides sufficient buffering capacity to prevent rapid decreases in pH and allows for repair of injured cells that might be sensitive to low pH values or inhibitory substances. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/universal-preenrichment-broth

Yeast and Mold Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Yeast and Mold Agar is prepared according to the formulation published by Wickerham and was formulated for the selective isolation of yeasts from mixed cultures containing bacteria and molds. The selectivity of this medium may be enhanced through acidification or through addition of selective agents. Yeast and Mold Agar should be sterilized without pH adjustment and sterile acid added to the medium cooled to 45 - 50°C. Acidified Yeast and Mold Agar should not be heated. Mycobiotic Agar is used for the selective isolation of fungi in a laboratory setting. Mycobiotic Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. The value of selective media for initial cultivation of pathogenic fungi has been demonstrated by numerous investigators. Historically, media for fungi generally relied on an acid pH to make the media less suitable for growth of many bacteria. Recently developed media use neutral or slightly alkaline reactions, antibiotics, bile salts, and dyes as selective agents against bacteria. Mycobiotic Agar is an excellent basal medium and antifungal agents, cycloheximide and chloramphenicol, are added to study their affect on fungi. This medium is proven useful in the isolation of dermatophytes and other fungi from samples. For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/mycobiotic-agar

Blood Agar Base No. 2 is used with blood for the isolation and cultivation of a wide variety of fastidious microorganisms. Blood Agar Base is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. A very rich agar base which, with the addition of blood, is capable of growing fastidious organisms. The medium gives colonial appearances, hemolysis patterns and pigment production of indicative value. When the blood is 'chocolated' the medium gives good recovery of Haemophilus spp. The medium can be made selective for various groups by the addition of appropriate antibiotic mixtures eg: Streptococcus spp. Colistin/Oxolinic acid (X013) Gardnerella spp. Colistin/Oxolinic acid (X011) C. perfringens Neomycin (X015) (X016) Staphylococcus/Streptococcus spp. Colistin/Naladixic acid (X012) For more information visit https://www.neogen.com/solutions/Microbiology/blood-agar-base-number-2

MacConkey Broth is used for the detection of coliform bacteria in milk and water. Conforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP Requirements and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. A medium recommended by the Harmonized USP/EP/JP for the selective enrichment of Escherichia coli from non-sterile samples. Conforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP performance specification. Gelatin peptone provides a source of nitrogen, while lactose is a fermentable carbohydrate. Ox bile acts a selective agent inhibiting most Gram-positive organisms and bromocresol purple acts as a pH indicator. A color change from purple to yellow indicates growth of a bile tolerant, lactose fermenting organism such as Escherichia coli. According to the Harmonized USP/EP/JP, MacConkey Broth is used as a selective enrichment broth, with subculture performed onto MacConkey Agar. Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) (ISO) is used for the non-selective pre-enrichment of a variety of microorganisms from food including Salmonella spp. and Cronobacter spp. from food. Buffered Peptone Water (BPW) (ISO) is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Formulated to ISO 6579-1:2017, ISO 22694:2017, ISO 21528-1:2017 and ISO 12950:2010. This pre-enrichment medium is designed to help sublethally damaged salmonellae recover before introducing them into a selective medium. This nutrient medium is free from inhibitors and is well buffered to maintain pH 7.0 for the incubation period. Sublethal injury to salmonellae occurs in many food processes and this pre-enrichment step greatly increases recovery of these organisms.
